McDonald Real Estate Everett Park Adventure Run

Introduction

The McDonald Real Estate Everett Park Adventure Run is being held on the 10th of May 2026! Come and join us for another day of adventure in Everett Park.

ETEC, Pukerangiora Hapū, and the Department of Conservation, with the support of Todd Energy, have been working hard to restore Everett Park for the community. The project has been incredibly successful, knocking down pests in only a few years and increasing the birdlife. To find out more, check out this video that the Taranaki Regional Council made for the Environmental Action in the Community Award last year.

ETEC is working to restore the Eastern hill country of Taranaki, and currently manages over 18,000ha of pest control. Our core area is home to kiwi, kōkako, long-tailed bats, robins, and many other threatened species. Everett Park is a great example of some of the work that the Trust carries out, but on a much smaller scale. To find out more, explore our website!

While this trail run will help raise funds for our pest control work in Everett Park Scenic Reserve, the main purpose is that we want to get people out enjoying Everett Park. The Reserve is home to old-growth forest, and while close to Inglewood, feels like you’re in the middle of the forest.

So bring your family, test your trail running skills, and enjoy a day out in nature.

Race length and cost

  • 2.5km – kids = $10 | adults = $15
  • 4.5km = $30
  • 9km = $45

Note: The 9km track is narrow and single-lane in places, and has a section that follows the ridge above the Manganui River where it has some steep cliffs.

There are walk options for the 2.5km and 4.5km events.

Race start times

Race registration open for numbering – 9:00 am – 9:50 am

Compulsory pre-race briefing for all participants – 9:50 am

  • 9km start – 10:00 am
  • 4.5km start – 10:10 am
  • 2.5km start – 10:20 am

Race numbers

All participants will be assigned a race number when they enter the race. On the morning before their race, they must sign in near the start line to have their number written on their hand. If a participant is no longer racing or wish to withdraw, they need to let one of the Event Staff know at the start/during the race. The same list will be used to mark off the participants’ numbers as they cross the finish line.

Parking

Parking will be in the flat paddock next to the quarry on Everett Road (just off Bristol Road). The parking paddock is outlined in white, and the gateway is circled in yellow. There will be marshalls in high-vis to show you where to park. Please follow their instructions.

You will need to cross the road from the car park to the start of the race. There will be marshalls to also help you to do this safely, so please follow their instructions.

Water, toilets and rubbish

There is no available drinking water in Everett Park, so please bring your own. There is one toilet block within Everett Park, and portaloos will be available by the parking. Please take all rubbish with you.

Dogs / strollers / earphones

Everett Park is a DOC Scenic Reserve so no dogs are permitted. For safety reasons, earphones are not encouraged to be worn – we encourage you to listen to the birdlife instead! Due to the nature of most of the tracks for the courses, strollers will not be allowed.

Aid stations

Two aid stations will be set up at the furthest points in the North and South of Everett Park. These will have some snacks for energy, and water will be available if needed (please remember we’re trying to reduce waste). Marshalls will be stationed here with radios and inReaches.

Medals

There are medals for all finishers. While we know quite a few people like to collect medals from their races, there’s many that are not too bothered about this. In lieu of a medal, you can choose to donate the medal cost to the Trust instead. This option is available on the registration form.

Limited cell phone service

There is limited cell phone service in Everett Park. Marshalls will have Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs), satellite phones, and 1st Aid Kits with them in case of an emergency.

Weather cancellation

Due to the nature of the terrain in Everett Park, the trails flood in heavy rain. If there is heavy rain in the days leading up to the event or forecasted for the day of the event, the event will be cancelled at the discretion of the event organiser due to the damage that the event would cause to the Reserve on flooded trails. Should this happen, you can either ask for a refund or you can choose to donate your entry fee to the Trust. All donations would be used for the pest control and conservation work carried out within Everett Park Scenic Reserve.

If you would like to be refunded, you will need to contact ETEC after the event at manager@etec.org.nz.
